Work Safe ACT

WorkSafe ACT was created on 3 May 2010 to replace ACT Workcover. WorkSafe ACT’s role is to enforce the Territory’s health and safety and workers’ compensation laws through a mixture of education and compliance activities.

WorkSafe ACT is a business unit with the ACT Justice and Community Safety Directorate’s Office of Regulatory Services. Mark McCabe, the head of WorkSafe ACT has a dual role as Work Safety Commissioner for the ACT and as Senior Director, WorkSafe ACT.

The primary functions of the Work Safety Commissioner are to:

• promote an understanding and acceptance of as well as compliance with the Work Safety Act 2008 and associated laws
• undertake research and develop educational material for the purposes of promoting health and safety in the ACT
• advise the relevant Minister on matters pertaining to health and safety in the ACT.
